Just call me Lady Macbeth...

I think it is fair to say that not only do I hate my carpet, I'm seriosly starting to despise it! Yes, those are strong words for a simple thing that covers the floor, but the words are not unjustified. We have lived in our house for 4 and 1/2 years. When we purchased our home, we were young, and frankly naive about what upgrades we should have done to our home. The benefit vs. the additional money. I WILL NEVER BUILD ANOTHER HOME, WITHOUT UPGRADING THE CARPET! The problem is, that we have spots. Of course, that is too be expected with 2 dogs, and 2 kids (and between you and me...a husband) But the spot won't go away! Hence, the title of the post. I can scrub those stinkin' spots, pretreat them, soak them, try every cleaner under the sun, use my steamer to clean them, and even get them professionally cleaned, and THE SPOTS ARE STILL THERE. They are sly little devils, just pretending to disappear, but really they are waiting. Waiting for you to feel confident that your carpet is nice and clean (about 3-4 days) and then they pop up again, like daisies! I can clean my house from top to bottom, but then still feel like its not clean because of that dang carpet. So since we won't be getting new carpet for a million years, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO GET RID OF THE SPOTS, PERMANETLY, BEFORE I GO CRAZY???

Sara, I have this amazing carpet cleaning recipe for homemade stuff- but I have not made it in years- but it works. It has some hard to find stuff in it. We also use this other stuff- you can buy at Wal-mart or Lowes- but it might not work- after all that you have done ;) I hate carpet spots too! call me and I can give you the recipe thing-it is worth a try :)

I feel the same way you do, although we didn't build our home, when we bought it we tossed around the idea of replacing the carpet, but opted not too...and our spots remain and remain and remain...if you find out any solutions let me know. We have found the resolve lessens the intensity of them but like Cori said, it's all about the area rugs. We have a HUGE one in the family room where we spend the most time. It's an outdoor rug from Target, very durable and it's been great! Good luck!

Just rip it out and lay down laminate wood flooring, I don't have any spots on mine and we've been here 3 years. We have the same struggle in our bedrooms, not sure of the answer.

Do repeat Familywithfivekids, and Nike Carpenter.... huge area rugs. With a plastic lining under to prevent further stains.

Let me just say that two days after our move in a Sister from the Ward came to visit and walked in with GUM on her shoe and sat at my chair in the living room and proceeded to grind it into the floor. Oh yes...it's still there. Only smaller. I've tried everything! Good thing there is such a thing as forgiveness! :)

Again, since I am playing catch up I can try to get the benefit of seeing what you did. We also didn't upgrade our carpet (even though we knew better). It is seriously the only thing in the whole house not upgraded - even the padding below is upgraded, but not the carpet!!! UGH! Did you find anything that worked? I don't know who you use for a professional cleaner, but I have a great one. In our old houe it was white carpet - he was great at getting set in gum, kool-aide, and a lot of other mess out. I can pass along his info if you need it.
