Did I do it right?

If you live in Tucson, there are some really great sales at the grocery stores this week, especially if you use coupons. Here is everything I got at Safeway and Fry's, for around $60 (everything is the cost with coupons). At safeway:
11 tubes of Toothpaste for free
12 bottles of shampoo and conditioner; .50 cents each
12 boxes of rice a roni for .75 cents
4 boxes of frosted flakes for $1.13 each
Natures Own bread for .50 cents each.

Then at fry's:
6 dial hand soap pumps for .18 cents each
Pie crusts were $1.00 each
The butter was $1.88 each, without coupons, which lately I've been paying over $2..ugh.
The milk is a FANTASTIC $1.57 without coupons, but with a limit of 2
They also have the blueberries and blackberries for a $1 a container. The blackberries are so good!
The Chef Boyardee was .35 cents a can..not the best stuff in the world, but if I'm in a bind for a quick lunch for the kiddos it would work.
So if you get a chance, check out somo of the sales going on.

My questions is.....how do you freeze bread??? I bought 6 loaves, because they are the really good $3.50 a loaf type bread, for only .50 cents, but then I got them home, and was like holy snot, I have no idea how to keep bread. So what I ended up doing is taking them out of their original bags, putting them inside a freezer ziplock bag, with a paper towel (to suck out the moisture), then sucked out the air with a straw and double bagged it. Is that how you do it??? It there a less time consuming way that still would give a good loaf of bread once thawed? And then how do you thaw it...just leave it on the counter over night? Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!

That's awesome Sarah! How do you do it? Do you just clip coupons or what? Seriously, teach me. I guess I am shopping stupid.

Way to go on saving some moola:) I am planning on getting some of the Fry's stuff:)
Freezing bread: we do this every week. All you do is leave it in the bag, and then I put another bag over it, usually a freezer zip lock bag. If it won't all fit, I divide the loaf in 1/2 and just keep original bag plus freezer zip lock. If you freeze any type of bread, I do it this way, or do 2 freezer zip lock bags. We usually re-use the outer bag over and over. Hope that helps :) We do this every week, and our bread is always fresh. I freeze hot dog buns, muffins, etc. etc. the same way ;)

oh- how to thaw- just take it out before you want to use it and let it sit :) I buy really expensive bread (we are bread snobs :)) and sometimes I just break a piece off the frozen loaf and toast it. It is pretty thick bread-so it can do that. I also put it in the fridge too- and have never had a problem defrosting it. Good luck :)

You're doing great on this coupon thing, I wish we had a Frys or Safeway?!? I usually follow Smith's sales, sometimes Albertsons, but that's really about it for choices.

I think my mom always just threw the bagged loaf in the freezer, I don't even remember her putting a second bag, but I'm sure double bagging would make it fresher. We always froze bread and milk.

Wow! Now we are back in Cruces I miss Smiths, but I would have to say you just can't get deals like that! Groceries just cost more here.
Growing up my mom just threw the bread in the freezer as is and then just took it out the night before using. Can't say it ever tasted bad, but if I freeze bread I put a bag around the orginal bag, and defrost the night before. I have been grinding my own wheat and making my own bread and I do the same thing with whole loaves as well. Good Luck
