Our house has 4 bedrooms. One is the master, one for Kyle, one for Kyra, and the last is the office/storage room. We LIVE in the family room. The living room/formal dining room is rarely used. It has a couch, a recliner, a TV, and a formal dining room set in it. When we used to have company come stay with us, we would put them in Kyle's room, but now that he is sleeping 11 hours at night, we don't want to change his sleeping arrangement, by putting him in our room. The family room isn't an option, so we have to put our guests in the living room. Its definitly big enough, but as you walk in the front door its opens into the living room, so you have to walk past it to get to the rest of the house, which doesn't offer much for privacy. So I'm trying to come up with a way to kind of blocking off half the living room, when guests are here. Also, when we have meetings at our house for church it would be nice if we could then block off the living room from the family room, so its a little quieter. So my thought is a screen of some sort. Lowe's gives directions online to build your own screen.

Its beautiful, but we don't own any of the tools, and frankly its scares me to make something like that without any previous experience. So I looked online, and to get a screen that would be large enough its like $200. So my other thought was that I could put a curtain panel on either side of the little entry way from the living room to the family room, and could close them for meetings. But that doesn't really help my guest situation, because it wouldn't block the living room from the front door. Soooo...does anyone have any ideas? Oh did I mention that we have company coming in about a week!

I like the screen idea. Do you have any awesome second hand stores there or a local online ebay type place to look. HEre in Utah it's KSL and Craigs List. You can find tons of local stuff to by.
I'm not sure how else you would do it and make it not tacky you know.
Let me ask my husband, see if he has any ideas with all his construction knowlege.
Hello Sara. It's Cindy Jo, remember me? Hope you don't mind I saw you left a comment on Cori G.'s blog, so I thought I would stop by yours. I can't believe how much Kyra has grown. You are such a good mommy. I just popped by to say hi and see how you were doing, but since you asked for ideas: I'll actually comment on that. One thing I've seen done is a kind of wall with storage cubes. You can put decorative items in them that look nice from both sides. Solid blocks or cubes at the bottom would provide more privacy for guests. And maybe throw in acrylic blocks for light? I don't know what the room looks like so....Or cost of this kind of stuff....(Ikea being a good source.)
