1300 miles and back again

We had a fantastic time on vacation these past two weeks. On the way up to Wyoming, we broke the traveling days into 8 hour chunks. The kids were FANTASTIC!! This is what the sky looked like pretty much the entire way up.

I had a lot of stuff for the kiddos to do in the car..books, toys from the dollar store, they did a little bit of this...

We did some coloring..

Played some games...

And of course played with cars...

We got a really late start the first day, because we waited until Kyra was done with preschool, so we pulled into Los Alamos, NM, at Karl's parents house at about 9 PM for a quick overnight pitstop. We of course had to stop at Chili Works for a GREEN chile breakfast burrito the next morning.

We then stopped in Denver over night and met up with some friends that use to live in Tucson. We went to the Denver zoo, which is a great zoo! Unfortuanetly I didn't get tons of pictures because this was Kyle during the first picture...

And then for all of the following pictures I tried to take...

After the zoo we headed back to the Lear's house. The kids were like little energizer bunnies. They just ran, and chased, and wrestled throughout the house. The funniest thing for them, is that the Lear's have an huge unfinished basement, which was perfect for riding bikes, and crashing into the padded walls.

The next morning we drove the rest of the way to Gillete, Wyoming to my sisters house. We knew we weren't in Tucson anymore Toto, when they were selling worms at the local gas station.

And this sign is posted on every street.

Kyra loved Trudy, and always had to have her arm around her all the time.

Calivin and Kyle are two peas in a pod...

After spending a couple days in Gillette, we went to Rapid City, South Dakota.
We stopped at Old McDonalds Farm. The fold down back seat in the van worked perfectly for our picnic lunches.

Kyra loved all of the baby animals. She couldn't get enough!

Kyle wasn't so sure of the animals. This was the look he had on his face the entire time.

He did like the Train ride....

He also loved the giant sandbox and playground. Here he is ready to go down the slide.

This is everyone looking at the fish pond.

We also went to Mount Rushmore...

**Side Comment: Once we got back to New Mexico, we went to Bandelier National Forest for a picnic. Kyra asked if were were going to Mount Rushmore again. Karl said no, but asked her if she remembered who was on Mount Rushmore. She said "Yep, sure do. Jesus and Santa."

We then made a quick stop at the Dinosaur park.

The next morning we stopped at Storybook Village. It is a FREE park, with statues and buildings from various stories. THE KIDS LOVED THIS PLACE!!

This little section of the park had a whales mouth, sitting over the top of a lake. Well both boys were told not to touch the water. So they worked out a system. One would hide in the whale's mouth, while the other would touch the water, and then they would switch. It was too cute!

Then that afternoon we went to the coolest miniture golf course I have ever seen. I forgot my camera, but as soon as my sister posts pictures I will grab some from her blog (Hint Hint :) The theme of the course was pirates, and at the end, once the kiddos turnrf in their clubs, they each got a gift bag of pirate stuff...eye patches, tatoos, earings. Here they are showing off their pirateness...

We then traveled back to Gillette for two more days of boardgames, food, and playing. There is a park not to far from my sisters house, that we would take the kiddos to.
Daddy and Kyra on the slide.

Kyle was wearing this super cute sandles, but he couldn't keep them on his feet. Here is Calvin trying to give him a hand.

Bryant, my brother in law, built his own recumbant bike! It was a lot of fun.

This was the main way we burned some kiddo energy!

We also got to go to the Children's Museum in Gillete. The kiddos had a blast here.

They had an exhibt, that showed pictures of what various diseases looked like under a microscope, and then they had little stuffed germs that looked like it was well. I thought it was only fitting, considering Kyra's history with the "flu bug" that we take a pictures!

This was the bubble exhibit at the Children's museum. THe bottome basin is filled with bubble solution.

When we left Gillette, we were going to stop again in Denver, but Kyle wasn't feeling that great so we decided to drive all the way back to Los Alamos...so 13 hours later the kids were getting a little silly/goofy.
Here is Kyra singing the song we made up.

More pictures to come of our last leg of the trip!

What a fun trip! Love all the fun photos! Can you tell me where you got your trays to put over the car seats for driving? That is a fantastic idea- and we need some of those- right away- as we have to go out of town for an emergency :)
