Grocery Store Shopping...
NOT my favorite thing to do. I was this type of shopper...
go without a shopping list, get in, get what you think you need, and add in a
few impulse buys,
pick what was cheapest right in front of you, and
get out of the store type girl. Then a couple months ago I sat down and looked at really just how much I was spending at the grocery store. It was insane...I'm actually too embarresed to even post what it was. Then on top of that I would go to the grocery store, buy food to make dinner every night that week, and then we would still go out to eat freqently. Now going out to eat is definitely our
"Latte Factor". The "Latte Factor" is that thing that every couple spends money on, that if they didn't, they would save tons. It comes from the idea that a person goes to starbucks, and spends $5 on a latte every morning, 5 days a week...$25 bucks a week, $1300 a year. Everyone has a latte factor. For some people its eating out, others its going to a movie every week, or buying new clothes, or toys for your kiddos, or whatever. "Experts" claim that if you can see on paper, just how much you really are spending on that little habit, you would be shocked. Well, YES I was shocked. Now I have always heard about people saying how much money you can save using coupons, but who has time to cut and orginize coupons? Now, I am the first to admit that I have growled, and thrown dirty looks at those woman in the grocery store with the huge stack of coupons, which take FOREVER for the checker to ring up, thus increasing the amount of time I spent in line, and ultimately in the store. Those woman who have what appears to be $200 worth of food, and then the checker says "$2.31", and my growling stops as my jaw hits the floor.
Well, no more! So for the last couple of months I have been going to the store with a menu planned for the week, we have been eating out less, and I have attemped to join "THE SECRET SOCIETY OF COUPON CLIPPERS". It really is like a little club, with chatrooms, and systems and programs, and a million and one other tools! My main goals were to cut down on our spending, eat healthier, less expensive dinners at home, and start my food storage. Now the first couple of weeks went really well, then the next week I stunk it up, and lately I've been hot and cold in terms of my committement to the plan. And, I remained sceptical until today! Today I got 6 boxes of Poptarts for
FREE! Now I know that they are just poptarts, and would of only cost like $12 anyway, but my kiddos love them, and I now have 6 boxes of poptarts in my food storage. Ahhh, the little success of a stay at home mom! Are any of you out there fellow secret coupon clippers?
