What would you of done?

So we went to Walmart this afternoon for a little shopping. In front of us while we were checking out was a mother, father, and a little girl about Kyra's age, sitting in the basket. The little girl reached over to touch something, and the mom got mad, hit the little girl's arm (pretty hard), and said "I told you not to touch!" The little girl started to cry. Kyra saw all of this take place, and then loud enough for the other mom to hear, asked me "Why did that Mommy hit her baby and make her cry?" Knowing the other mom was in ear shot, what would you have told Kyra?

I probably would've said "She just dosen't want her daughter to get into trouble sweetie" and left it at that. You don't want to upset another mother, you never know what crazies are out there and who you'll upset and what they'll do to you or your car once you're outside.
What did you end up saying?

That is like Renna asking "Why is that man smoking when he knows it will kill him?" I guess it depends on how bold you felt at the time. I guess you could have given her a pass along card.
