Kyra went to her second art class on Friday. She absolutely LOVES anything creative! She can sit there for hours. They made egg carton caterpillars this time. Kyra wanted to glue on 4 googly eyes. I tried to explain that caterpillars only have 2 eyes. She justified the idea of 4 googly eyes, with the prospect of the caterpillar having more than one head. I tried to explain that it was just silly for a caterpillar to have 2 heads. The teacher, Mrs. Lily overheard the conversation. She as the teacher, departed her infinite wisdom on the situation. (By the way the teacher speaks about 3 times louder than anyone else around her) "If that child wants to make a two headed caterpillar, then a two headed caterpillar exists!" Kyra, with the realization that she has won this battle quickly replys "I'll get the glue!" So here is her TWO HEADED caterpillar.

Fun in the Sun..and some bumps too.
Today we went to the zoo, and the weather actually wasn't to bad. There was the slightest breeze, so it kept the temperature below 100 degrees (of course we were there at 9 AM). There is another family in our ward that has a little girl about Kyra's age, and another little girl about Kyle's age. So they play together really well. Here is Kyle with his buddy Eli, taking a quick snack break before heading off to the flamingos.
Kyra with Bailee.
Now for the bumps aspect of the post. On Monday, we were walking to our car after having lunch. Kyra hit her head on the corner of a pickups tailgate. This picture was taken on Tuesday, so the goose egg is gone, and then you can still see it in the picture from the zoo, today. It swelled to a goose egg that stuck out about 1/2 inch off her head within LITERALLY about 10 seconds. It stinks to be 33 inches, when the common height of a pickups tailgate is the same.

Bouncy Fish!
Today was Kyra's first art class. Its a toddler class offered through Parks and Rec. SHE LOVED IT! Its an hour long class, and I had to drag her away at the end. They simply had little fish cut out of construction paper, that they glued tissue paper, cutouts, and ribbon on. Then they attached an elastic cord to the top, to make the fish look like its bouncing through the water. This picutre is Kyra exercising her glueing skills.
Kyra with Mrs. Lily. Kyra instantly liked her.
Kyra loved making her fish bounce.
Kyra "smiling"!

It had to be done...
I know both grandmas are going to have heart attacks, but we HAD to cut Kyra's hair. She is almost 3, and we have never cut it. Her hair is SUPER thin, and very wispy, and she still has some little bald spots. So it looks okay for the first 5 min after the bathtub, but after that it starts going crazy. She even won best "Bed Head" at the ward party pajama party last year. So our very sweet friend came over tonight, and gave Kyra a cute little pixie cut! It is super cute!It is pretty short but looks really cute with bows and ribbons. The friend who cut it brought a bow with her, just so we could see what the hairstyle would look like with accessories. The top picture is the before (after a nap), and the bottom is after the haircut, with Kyra admiring herself in the mirror.

Kyra's reaction to getting her hair cut was both a little sad, but funny. Just before Camy started, I asked her if she was ready, and she took a deep breath and said "It won't hurt very much? Will she have to cut off my fingers?" It always amazes me what little kids see and hear, and then how it process through their little minds. But Kyra was great. I just put on a movie, and she sat really still. So as far as first haircuts go, I don't think it could of gone any better.

Save the Deanza
In the Arizona Daily Star this morning there was an article about the DeAnza Drive in, here in Tucson, is CLOSING!!! They are going to tear it down to make it into a strip mall! I am so bummed. It was such a great place to go see a movie, at only $6 a person, and kids being free. The kids could walk around, or if they got fussy could just sit in the car. It was such a fun family experience.
Here is the article:http://www.azstarnet.com/business/239096
At the bottom is a link to a blog, that a local woman started, to save the DeAnza!!!

Stupid Aladdin!
Tonight Karl had a bishopric meeting, so I had to put the kids to bed by myself. Usually I read to Kyle, while Karl plays with Kyra. Then Karl will sing to Kyle, while I read to Kyra. Then Karl will read Kyra one more book, and sing her songs. Karl usally does all of Kyra's nighttime singing. Kyle went down really easily. Read 3 books, sing a couple songs, lay him down, and he falls asleep on his own. Kyra is another story. I read her 5 books. Then comes singing time. I try Eensy Weensy Spider. No dice. Apparently Karl is much more adventerous in his song choices. I try "Popcorn Popping". She will have none of it. I ask "What song do you want to sing?" She says the theme song from Aladdin. Okay I have no idea the exact words to Aladdin. I know it has something to do with a magic carpet ride. Am I a bad mom because I don't know the theme song to Aladdin? Do all of you other mom's out there know the theme song to Aladdin? But I do know that because Karl sings it so much to her, she has it memorized. So I ask her to just sing the first line, and then I can probably catch on. She the proceeds to say in the most "my dad is better than my mom" voice she can muster "Daddy knows the words to the Aladdin theme song." "I know baby, but Daddy isn't here, so if you can just sing the first line to the song, I'm sure I can catch on." She agrees. Yea! Success! No. This is what she sings "I have often dreamed of a far off place." Okay now that is the Hercules theme song..which apparently Karl sings to her every night as well. Well she is now laughing hysterically at me, thinking it is the funniest thing in the world, because she knows she is singing Hercules, and she knows she wants Aladdin, and she knows I don't know Aladdin. I try Eeensy Weensy Spider again. No dice. "Okay Kyra if we can sing Popcorn Popping right now, then when Daddy comes home he will come in and sing Aladdin. She buys into the compromise. So now comes the sippy cup portion of the evening. We give her a sippy cup of water to go to bed with every night. I get her a sippy cup of water. She says she wants juice. I reply, no only water at night. She starts yelling in a sort of on strike protester type yell "I want my daddy!" "Daddy will give me juice." "I want my Daddy!" "Daddy will give me juice." "Daddy knows the Aladdin song!" "Daddy will give me juice". "I want my Daddy"
I really do love and appricate how good of a dad Karl is with our children. They idolize him, and he is the most devoted dad! But late at night, when I am home by myself, after a long day, for a split second I resent the fact that he knows the Aladdin theme song.
P.S. Karl claims she only gets water at night.

A complete lack of wisdom..
Well this morning I had my last remaining wisdom tooth removed. It truely amazes me how you don't even realize that they have put you to sleep, when they wake you. Also that it feels like you have been asleep for 1 minute, and its been an hour! I love modern medicine. Everything went well. You might think, why am I doing a post..well right now EVERYTHING is still numb. So I still don't really feel anything! We will see what the morning brings.
